There’s little worse than booting up your favorite game, only to be met with a dozen different launchers expecting you to sign in to multiple different services, taking your data while they’re at it.

Thankfully, this is something developers Fireaxis Games has noticed and is going to rectify withCivilization 6, andCivilization 7when it launches later next year.

Civilization 6 And 7 To Drop The 2K Launcher

Shared ina noteon Civilization 6’sSteamstore page, the team said, “Alongside Challenge 10 going live on August 14, the new update also removes the 2K Launcher from Sid Meier’s Civilization VI on Steam. In addition, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will not use the2K Launcheron PC.”

The update, which is live now, has been met with delight from Civilization fans, who have been plagued with the issue since the game launched back in October 2016.

The news the launcher is being removed is the first piece of information we’ve received about Civilization 7 since it was revealed duringSummer Game Festin June. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer for any further details.

The title is set to appear duringGamescom Opening Night Live, with Geoff Keighly revealing its debut gameplay trailer. Following that, developers Firaxis will host a “Gameplay Showcase,” comprised of over 20 minutes of hands-on footage. The game will also be appearing atPAX West, with a developer panel sharing “new insights and behind-the-scenes anecdotes” from Civilization 7.
