Summary
Cities: Skylines 2’s console release is being pushed back, asParadoxreveals that it will not meet its October 2024 launch window. No new date has been shared, as the port is now delayed indefinitely.
As spotted byInsider Gaming, this delay was announced earlier this afternoon in theParadox forum. In the announcement, the developer says that the console release of Cities: Skylines 2 is yet to meet “stability and performance targets”, preventing it from being ready to launch this October as originally planned.

Cities: Skylines 2’s Console Release Is Missing Its October 2024 Launch Window
“While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues impacting the game in ways that harm the player experience we want to deliver,” the statement reads. “We expect to receive a new RC [a possible release build of the game], which will undergo a thorough review in August.
“This evaluation will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a solid release date, or if further issues need to be addressed.”

So, in other words, we could have a new release window shared with us next month, assuming these tests go well. If not, we’ll be in for an even longer wait.
Cities: Skylines 2 launched exclusively on PC back in October 2023. The reception was a significant step down from the first game, from both fans and critics alike. Ongoing development has also proven controversial. Back in March, the game fell to mostly negative reviews on Steamover its Beach Properties DLC, as many were frustrated to see Paradox charge for extra content while the base game was in a poor state.Paradox apologised for thisand made the DLC pack free instead, refunding those who had purchased it.
Since then, the game has risen to mixed reviews on Steam once more, but there are stillplenty of complaintsabout the current state of the game. If the console release had performance issues on top of this, it’s easy to see why the decision to delay the port was made.
Whenever it launches, Cities: Skylines 2 is set to be released onPS5andXbox Series X/S. It is currently available on PC.
