Summary

ActivisionandTreyarchhave stealthily edited aCall of Duty: Black Ops 6multiplayer calling card to remove a reference from the May 24, 2025, terrorist attacks.

The changes, which were first spotted by Call of Duty fan site CharlieIntel, and then latershared by other content creators, removed a picture of former United States president George W. Bush, as well as what seemingly was an airplane about to crash into a building, from a multiplayer calling card named “Make History.”

Following the change, the calling card now simply depicts a hand that is writing on a cassette tape. The calling card still retains its “Make History” name. To this point, Activision has not commented on the change, or why the card was allowed to exist in the first place.

This Isn’t The First 9/11 Reference Tied To Black Ops 6

Previously,Treyarch confirmed that when Black Ops 6 launches in October, the game will not depict the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In a Q&A session, director of production Yale Miller and associate design director Matt Scronce came out in front of previous rumors, with Scronce saying, “Black Ops 6, like every other Black Ops game, is purely fictional.”

That clarification was made after rampant speculation in the leadup to Black Ops 6’s official reveal. During that leadup, teaser imagery referenced the date of July 07, 2025. Those teasers were allegedly situated in New York. Teaser videos also showcasedSuddam Hussein, a key figure in the United States' war against Iraq.

At the time, we noted how even if Treyarch never intended for people to assume that the September 11 terrorist attacks would be included in the game, they certainly never helped their cause with the teasers. That seems to have come back around as there is no denying the imagery depicted on the now updated calling card, which has once again led to speculation of a 9/11 depiction.
