Borderlands 4was just revealed during the opening of Gamescom 2024, launching next year.
We don’t have much information to go off of right now, but the trailer opened with a fiery Phoenix in space, the symbol of Lilith. We last saw her in 2019 when she flew to Elpis and engulfed the moon in flames, leaving the sigil of the Phoenix in her wake—looks like we’re picking up right where we left off.
The Steam store page gives us a little more information, revealing that we play as a Vault Hunter searching for “secret alien treasure”. Whatever that might be.
The Borderlands series is on sale right now on Steam. You can pick up the entire collection for just £29.21, down from £526.21.
Randy Pitchford teased the reveal last week while adamantly defending the maligned new movie on Twitter, saying that the team is “working extra hard four you on what’s next”, and now it’s finally here. Let’s just hope it can wash the taste of the film out, eh?
Borderlands Just Got A New Movie… But It Isn’t Going Down Well
Speaking of, the Borderlands movie finally released earlier this month after years of changing hands andreports of post-production hell, but it’s not doing so hot. It’s one of the biggest bombs this year, debuted atzero percenton Rotten Tomatoes, and was evenbeaten at the box office last weekend by the 15th-anniversary re-release of Coraline. Hell, even Uwe Boll—the man behindFar Cry’smovie—has been poking fun.
The latest Borderlands game wasn’t amazingly received, either, although it did fare a lot better than the movie. New Tales from the Borderlands launched to an aggregate score of just 68 on Metacritic two years ago, but maybe Borderlands 4 can pull things back.
There will have been six years between Borderlands 3 and Borderlands 4 when it launches, just shy of the seven-year wait after Borderlands 2. We’ll just have to wait and see as to whether it lives up to the hype.
