Summary
It’s no secret thatBlack Myth: Wukonghas beena rousing success since launching earlier this week. According to the datahoused at SteamDB, Black Myth: Wukong has achieved a 2.4 million all-time concurrent peak, which is good enough for second all-time on Steam, beating out the likes of Counter-Strike 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.
What’s more, Game Science, the team behind the smash hit, revealed on Friday that 10 million copies have been sold. But between all those statistics is an even more unbelievable number.

Over the last seven days, China has accounted for 1.2 Exabytes of Steam traffic, amounting to nearly 60% of all global traffic. For reference, the United States has accounted for 256 Petabytes, or just about 12% of all global traffic.
What’s An Exabyte Anyway?
You’ve likely heard of gigabytes and terabytes, but an exabyte is something else entirely.
If 1,024 Megabytes equals one Gigabyte, and 1,024 Gigabytes makes one Terabyte, then an Exabyte is made up of 1,024 Petabytes. It takes 1,024 Terabytes to make a single Petabyte. In other words, that’s an enormous amount of data. Of course, not all of it is exactly attributed toBlack Myth: Wukong, though, it’s safe to assume that a major portion of it is.
And if you’re curious just how many copies of Black Myth: Wukong that could be, then someone was brave enough to do the math.Over on Reddit, one user shared the following:
An Exabyte is 10246, or 1.153 quintillion Bytes. For reference, Black Myth Wukong’s file size, without any other factors, is 128.68 GB. 1 Exabyte is equivalent to 8.344 million copies of Black Myth Wukong.
And if you’re even more curious about what an Exabyte actually looks like, then look no further than the DataHoarder subreddit. Hint: it’s a whole lot of real estate.
All of this is to say that Black Myth: Wukong is nothing short of a massive success, and if the words of critics aren’t enough, then the data surely is. And that’s an extremely large amount of data we’re talking about here.
