A lot of video games have been getting amazing adaptations. We saw it with shows like Fallout andThe Last of Us, as well as with the Sonic and Mario movies. Some video games make great movies because of iconic characters, and others due to intense storylines.
The dying question is which movie will we be getting next? Which video games are worth the adaption, and which are destined to remain on the small screen? Below you’ll find eight video games that would make great movies.
8Kingdom Hearts
Disney Villains Uniting
Kingdom Hearts isa fantastic video game; it’s a clash of Disney and Final Fantasy, which makes it a game that’s suitable for all ages. We follow Sora as he works with Goofy and Donald to save the Disney princesses and keep the heartless from taking over.
This movie would do fabulously, as it would include beloved Disney characters (like Aladdin and Hercules) andmultiple villains coming together(like Hades and Ursula) which would make the movie unique. The movie could surround just the first game, or go further and delve more into the backstories of each character.
7God of War
Mythology Galore
God of War is a video game where players get to play as Kratos, a Spartan warrior who seeks revenge on Ares, the God of War. Athena makes him an offer; if he manages to kill Ares, his past disgressions will be forgiven, and he’ll be free of the curse placed upon him.
Since this game is loosely based on Greek Mythology, there are endless opportunities to turn it into a fantastic movie. You could follow Spartan’s journey to kill the God of War or expand upon Greek Mythology by including more gods; there are curses, advanced weaponry, intense guilt, and family dynamics to explore.
6The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Fantasy Submersion
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a beautiful, open-world fantasy game, and the game itself has great graphics and tons of towns and forests to explore. Skyrim is a game that surrounds a rare warrior called a Dragonborn who has unique magic, and your character has a knack for learning the magic of the dragons, even though your quests lead you to kill them.
The game starts with the first dragon to be seen in ages burning down buildings in front of your character, which would be an epic start to a movie. If Skyrim was turned into a movie, it could be based on the game by following a Dragonborn, or it could be a bit looser, similar to theDungeons and Dragons Movies.
5Life Is Strange
Choice-Based Games
Life is Strange is a series of puzzle-based games where you make choices to advance the story. The first game follows Max, a character who can move backward in time; she sees her friend getting shot and uses her power to save her and understand an impending storm.
These games follow different characters dealing with death, life, and everything in between, as each main character has a power, such as Empathy or Time Travel to aid them in their struggles. Merging these games into one to create a movie would be a fantastic choice, and it would be great to see the timelines merge and have a group of supernatural kids.
4Apex Legends
Amazing Characters
Apex Legends is a cool gamewith great characters; each character has an epic backstory, such as Alter, a character drawn to worlds on the edge of destruction who refuses to live a mundane life. Apex Legends is a Battle Royale shooting game where you play as a legend and fight against other teams.
There is a lot of diversity and representation within the characters, which makes it a game that is relatable to a wider audience. If this game was turned into a movie, it would surround the backstories and how each character ended up in the battle and, of course, the winning team.
3Dark Souls
Dragons And Gods
Dark Souls is exactly what it sounds like, a dark game with fantasy elements; throughout the game, you’re following and hunting down the Lord Souls to reach the dwindling First Flame. You end up with a choice, to extinguish it and start the Age of Darkness, or rekindle it and bring new life into the Age of Fire, continuing the undead curse plaguing humanity.
The Dark Souls games have endless lore that would make for an awesome movie; it could be a prequel before the first game, discussing how the first flame came to be, or it could start with the flame extinguishing. There are endless options, and all of them would be worth watching.
2Metroid
Bounty Hunting
Metroid is an adventure game that follows Samus, a super cool bounty hunter who tracks down space pirates. She retrieves organisms that were stolen to defeat the pirates and save the galaxy.
This character would do amazing on the big screen and would be known not just for her own game, but for her appearance in the Super Smash Bros series. This movie would showcasea woman who was truly worth looking up tofor the next generation of gamers, and it could follow the plot of any of her games, or simply take the root of who she is and create an original story.
1Psychonauts
Into The Mind
Psychonauts is a strange game with weird (in the best way) animation, and the game follows a young psychic who longs to be a secret agent. In the first game, he leaves his family and joins a summer camp for psychics, and in the second, it unveils the Psychonauts organization and his family’s connection to it.
This would work as a great children’s film, as it surrounds important topics such as mental health while bringing in fantasy elements such as entering people’s minds and saving the world from secret organizations. A movie surrounding the concept of agents that go into your mind would be unique and fun to watch.
