Summary

InDeadlock, the third-person MOBA developed by Valve Software, figuring out what to do and where to do it can be aquestion of knowledge. Playing as a tank is one such answer to that question. They might not always be the most mobile, or the most threatening, but their ability to soak up damage without folding under the pressure can be a stopgap that the entire team can rally around.

Pushing back against the enemy team is an invaluable tool in a game centered around maintaining territorial control, and there is none better to do so than the role of the tank. Bolstered by their powerful abilities, tanks are the backbone of many a good strategy and a reliable part of any team.

5Abrams

One look at Abrams is enough to tell what type of gameplay he was designed for. With the right build, Abrams can be a struggle even for multiple opponents to take down effectively. His abilities to sap away enemy health only to bolster his own and negate incoming damage all contribute to his defensive qualities, and taking enemies by surprise with his charge attack can quickly lead to him overwhelming entire groups of foes.

Abrams is the quintessential tank in Deadlock, able to both withstand and then dish out large amounts of damage. With his ease of use and powerful abilities, Abrams is never a bad addition to a team, and one particularly appropriate for players who may be new to the game or genre.

4Bebop

What Bebop lacks in defensive abilities compared to some of the more robust options to chose from in Deadlock he more than makes up for in his capacity for throwing enemies into disarray. His tools allow for him to be equally dangerous whether he’s up close or at a distance, and his large health pool allows for him to dive into the thick of the fight without worry.

The right items bought at the shop can greatly assist in making Bebop even more formidable than he already is, making him a good utility pick that is never lacking for choices. When push comes to show, Bebop can show his foes the door with a blast from his laser or focus on single targets with a barrage of melee attacks.

3Mo & Krill

Mo & Krill boast the highest heath pool in the game, which, paired with the fastest health regeneration, truly makes them a force to be reckoned with. Once they have gained the upper hand, they can be hard to stop. Enemies will find themselves stunned and locked down by their oppressive offensive abilities, and their capacity to steal health from foes can keep them going even in the middle of combat.

With their ability to dig down into the earth and launch back out for surprise attacks, enemies won’t always see you coming either, allowing you to enter engagements with the upper hand. The rest of their abilities will keep it that way too, making few sights more terrifying than these two barreling down a lane.

2Warden

Warden comes equipped with a variety of buffs to help bolster his own defenses while still remaining offensively viable. The right abilities used in succession can effectively end a fight before it even begins, and his charge will let him chase down and finish off any foes who try to escape after they realize what they’re up against.

While this runs the risk of Warden overextending, mindful play can result in a challenge that no foe will be eager to face. Warden offers a unique perspective on tank gameplay, centered more around creative use of his abilities than outright soaking up damage.

1Viscous

Viscous is all about mobility: either denying it from his enemies or boosting that of his own. His ball of goo, when thrown, slows and damages any enemies that are unlucky enough to be caught within its vicinity, and his ability to transform into a large ball allows him to literally bowl over entire groups of foes.

When playing as Viscous you’ll be bouncing and rolling across the map in no time, stunning enemies and summoning a giant fist from the earth to send them flying. If you’ve taken too much damage, simply transform into a gelatinous cube and watch as your health returns. These moves can be used when on the attack or to make a quick escape, making Viscous a versatile if usual tank.
