King of the Hill has never played better than in the fantastic board game King of Tokyo, and King of New York. Fundamentally very similar, these board games share most of the same rules, mechanics, and game feel that make them virtually interchangeable.
What’s great about both these games is that theexpansions are interchangeable with both versions of the game, depending on which you own. If you want to pick up a few expansions for King of Tokyo or King of New York, you will want to check these out.

King of Tokyo: Power Up!
Mega Shark is taking no prisoners
The seas are no longer safe in King of Tokyo with the release of the Power Up! expansion. This add-on to the game brings new evolution cards for both versions of the game, each one with new rules to follow to keep your game exciting and aquatic!

If you have the base game for King of New York, the Power Up! expansion takes your game to even stranger heights with the introduction of the Evolution mechanic. This new mechanic can be played with the King of Tokyo base game as well, so it doesn’t make a difference which one you’re playing with.
Evolution cards are either permanent or temporary powerups to your monster, making them feel a bit more unique among the other monsters, even from game to game, since you never know which cards you’re going to draw. The Power Up! Expansion also brings a new monster with it, the trident-wielding Mega Shark, which is a super fun addition to the game.

King of Tokyo: Halloween
Now your kaiju can play dress up!
Two new monsters come to the game in this spooky holiday-themed expansion, Boogie Woogie and Pumpkin. This expansion also has special costumes your monsters can dress up in, giving them powerful bonuses but at the risk of having them stolen away.
Dressing up forHalloween is one of the best parts of the holidayand now you too can don some Kaiju-sized costumes when you jump into a game of King of Tokyo. This expansion comes with two new monsters to pick, Boogie Woogie and Pumpkin Jack, a few Power Up cards to compliment the Power Up! expansion and 12 special costume cards.

These cards add other bonuses to your monsters, but they can be stolen by other players so they’re rarely around for long. One of the best features of this expansion is that it comes with an extra set of dice, so there’s a little less passing around dice between players.
King of Tokyo: Monster Pack: Cthulhu
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is winning at a board game.
Bring a whole new level of gameplay to your King of Tokyo and King of New York games with the Monster Pack: Cthulhu expansion. This mini pack brings cultists and a whole temple dedicated to the Dreaming god to the game, offering some unique mechanics you can’t get from any other monster.

Surprising no one, the Monster Pack: Cthulhu puts you in the dripping wetshoes of the eldritch beast himself. You get to play as the great Dreamer in an exceptionally flavored expansion complete with Cultists and his very own Temple.
The Monster Pack: Cthulhu is a bit more involved than some other Monster Packs, as the Cultists have different rules depending on if you’re playing King of Tokyo or King of New York. Either way, you also gain access to Madness tokens, which can hinder your opponents by locking them out of dice to roll.

King of Tokyo: Even More Wicked!
It never felt so good to be bad
Introducing a whole new way to play King of Tokyo and King of New York with the Even More Wicked expansion! This expansion gives you an alternate way to win, along with a way to make even your worst rolls feel good.
Originally found in the Dark Edition of King of Tokyo, the Even More Wicked! expansion brings a devilishly evil take on the game. While this expansion doesn’t come with a new monster to play as but instead offers a new twist on traditional rules to change up the game.
With the Even More Wicked expansion, you get a special point tracking board, Wickedness tiles, and a special monster counter for 15 of the original monsters. You’ll earn wickedness points instead of victory points for different rolls, which offers a different way to win while making your worst rolls feel a little better.
King of Tokyo: Monster Pack: King Kong
He’s the King of every city
Not content with stomping around just New York, King Kong has come to Tokyo to show them who is king. This expansion works with both versions of the game, and gives you an alternate win condition by assembling a building unique to each city.
The eighth wonder of the world is visiting Tokyo now in the Monster Pack expansion for him. Much like the Cthulhu Monster Pack, King Kong lets you play as the giant gorilla, as well as a whole bunch of new cards and mechanics exclusive to Kong.
King Kong brings with him an alternate win condition by assembling three pieces of a building, either Tokyo Tower or the Empire State Building, depending on which city you’re playing it. Once the building is built, you win the game, though each piece is harder to acquire than the last.
King of Tokyo: Monster Pack: Baby Gigazaur
Take over the city, one nap at a time.
Baby Gigazaur is king in the King of Tokyo expansion, bringing with it some punishing new evolution cards and a whole new monster to play with. Even with how cute it is, this kaiju-sized toddler is here to take over the game.
The last expansion for King of Tokyo is also the most recent one released for the game. This one takes the Baby Gigazaur monster found in the Monster Box edition of King of Tokyo and releases it as an individual monster you may add to your collection.
This little cutie is an absolute blast to play, especially with cards that punish your opponents for wounding your Baby Gigazaur. The inspiration for this friendly fella is Baby Godzilla, and though he doesn’t add as much to the game as King Kong or other Monster Packs, he’s an adorable addition to the game.
