It’s hard to believe thatPokemonis almost thirty years old. These little monsters have been enchanting us for decades, and some of the children who grew up with this franchise are now old enough to introduce it to children of their own. This also means that what some of us would consider the “later” generations have, for others, become nostalgic and formative.

Most of us remember the second generation as an evolution or variation, but for some people, it was their first Pokexperience. Whatever role this second region played for you, there’s no denying that this excellent generation and its first expanded set of Pokemon deserve to be celebrated, not to mention hugged. To that end, we’ve taken a look and found some of the best Jhoto plushies out there.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus 8

Pokemon Legends: Arceus 8" Cyndaquil Plush

Many people’s first Pokemon

We begin with the most popular starter of this generation. This high-quality plush does a great job capturing the strange brand of adorableness that this fire-type starter pulls off so effortlessly.

Pokémon 8

A generation’s starters are always among its most important iconic elements. Every generation gets three, andthe fire type is usually the most popular. That’s certainly the case with Jhoto, so much so that its fire-type was chosen as the starter in Legends of Arceus as well, which we mention because this product was technically made with that game in mind.

Regardless, the important thing for our purposes here is that it’s cute, and that’s definitely the case. While it might have been even better to include the retractable fire on Cyndaquil’s back, the relaxed mood implied by it being hidden also compliments this product well.

Poéemon Center: Sitting Cuties: Bellossom Plush

Pokémon 8" Totodile

It wants to hug you

Another starter, this little crocodile is likewise a favorite of many, as is it’s absolutely sick evolved form, Feraligator. A lot of Pokemon’s evolutionary lines attempt that transition from cute to awesome, but few pull it off quite this well.

Espeon & Umbreon Pokemon Plush 2-Pack

While the fire-type starter is usually the most popular in a generation, the water-type is often a close second. That’s definitely the case here, where the water-type is many people’s favorite, and it’s well-represented by this high-quality plush. Its arms are spread in a manner that reflects the fact that it wants to hug you as badly as you want to hug it, and it’s soft and firm in a way that will make that hug feel just right.

Pokemon Center: Sitting Cuties: Bellossom Plush

The end of a line is rarely this adorable

One of the stranger alternate evolutions from this generation, this beautiful dancing flower gives the poisonous Gloom a path to beauty, and one of the most adorable final evolutions out there.

Pichu Plush

Grass type starters, sadly, do not often attain the popularity that their comrades lay claim to, which is the primary reason Chikorita is sadly not on this list. Here to stand in its place is another pure-grass type, Bellossum. Generation 2 introduced a number of interesting ideas. Though it’s not the first generation with a Pokemon that can evolve multiple ways, asEevee did that back in generation one, it did introduce a bunch of novel alternatives, including this Pokemon, which allows Gloom to forego becoming a poisonous Vileplume and instead embrace beauty, elegance, and cuteness.

Espeon & Umbreon Pokemon Plush 2-Pack

Two high-quality product

This two-pack holds complimentary plushies representing Jhoto’s two new Eeveelutions, Espeon and Umbreon, who evolve when an Eevee is properly befriended during the day or night. They’re favorites for a reason.

Pokémon Large 12

Speaking of Eveelutions, that master of multiple evolutions got two new forms in Pokemon’s second generation, designed to capitalize on the then-novel friendship and day-night mechanics. Because Pokemon naturally gain friendship as you use them, this made both of these evolutions especially attainable, which is why many of us ended up getting them. We don’t want to make you pick between these excellent little doggos, which is why we’re including both of them here, bundled together for the benefit of Eevee fans everywhere.

Pokemon 8" Pichu Plush

Literally a baby pokemon, but cute enough to be a baby even if it weren’t

The pre-evolved form of Pokemon’s most important mascot, Pichu is somehow even more adorable than the most iconic Pokemon of them all, and this high-quality plush of it absolutely deserves a place on this list.

Pokémon 12

Pokemon Large 12" Ampharos

Those stubby arms pack a decent punch

The final evolution of an early-game Pokemon, Ampharos does a better job than almost any other Pokemon balancing cute and awesome, ensuring the memorability of what could’ve otherwise been a relatively pedestrian evolutionary line.

Generation 2 didn’t just add cool new things to the ends of Pokemon’s evolutionary lines. It also went back added “baby” forms to the beginning of some of them, including this adorable little creature. Pikachu was already popular enough, in part because of how cute it’s appearance was, and this creature was designed to concentrate and accentuate that cuteness, resulting in something that was even more delightful. It’s genuinely one of the cutest Pokemon out there, and this plushie lets you have your very own specimen to hug.The Mareep line is an interesting one. At the time of its debut, it was the easiest an electric type Pokemon had ever been to obtain so early in the game. (Pikachu was obtainable about as early, but was relatively unlikely to be encountered, so it took more time and luck to find.)

Some early-game Pokemon start out nice, but ultimately wind up being underwhelming and forgettable. Fortunately, that’s not the case of this Pokemon here, which does an unparalleled job staying cute while getting big and powerful, resulting in perhaps the most “balanced” design in the generation.

Pokemon 12" Large Lugia Plush

The first and greatest boxart legendary

One of the most popular mascot legendaries in the history of the franchise, this large Lugia plushie allows you to bring this most epic of monsters, the greatest of legendary birds, into your home.

For the most part, this list has focused on cute Pokemon. While we’ve praised a few of the creatures on this list for also managing to be beautiful or awesome, cuteness has been our focus. That’s understandable, considering most people buy plushies primarily in hopes of them being cute. However, sometimes a Pokemon is awesome enough to transcend that consideration, and Lugia definitely is.

Part of the first pair of Mascot legendaries, and so popular it was able to carry Pokemon Silver Version to first place and send Gold Version down to second, this is one of the most awesome Pokemon in history, and this plushie does a great job capturing its appearance with a product large enough to do justice to its finer details.

FAQ

What is the coolest Johto starter?

This is obviously subjective. Generally speaking, Totodile and Cyndaquil are more popular than Chikorita. Feraligator is an extremely cool-looking Pokemon, and its appearance makes a good case for it being the “coolest,” though the belief that Typhlosion is the best out there is definitely valid.

Are Pokemon plushies worth anything?

Obviously they are, or we couldn’t make a list recommending a bunch for you to buy! While none of the products on this list are super expensive, some of the most expensive plushies out there have sold for price points in the triple or quadruple digits. These are usually extremely rare and extremely large plushies.
