Summary

Everyone comes toCore Keeperfor their own reasons, but even if you’re in it mostly for exploration and combat, investing in more mundane, relaxed mechanics, like farming and fishing, pays off in the long term, especially if you want to get to end-game content.

In the same way, upgrading your gear allows you to pursue higher difficulty areas and enemies, food is an integral part of buffing yourself for combat and resource gathering; without it, you’re only shooting yourself in the foot. If you need an idea of ingredients to go for or combine, these recipes should point you in the right direction.

Some recipes use rare versions of ingredients, but that isn’t required; it just makes their effects more potent.

Jasper Angle Fish

Dark Lava Eater

If you enjoy spending a fair amount of your time fishing, you’re able to pair a Jasper Angle Fish with a Dark Lava Eater to create a sushi that offers buffs most helpful for melee builds. However, that doesn’t mean most of the benefits aren’t good overall.

If you want to farm a specific enemy, or an area full of enemies for an extended amount of time, this food will keep you from dying or burning through other consumables that you’d otherwise be using to restore your health.

Marbled Meat

Shiny Larva Meat

This steak definitely isn’t the most powerful food you can make, but its usefulness can be diluted into two parts: it uses easily obtainable ingredients, and gives universally applicable buffs like percent increases to critical hit chance and damage.

Just slap together some Marbled Meat, which you can get from Moolin or Nilipedes, and some Larva Meat, which is extremely common and drops from a variety of enemies, and you get an incredibly accessible food that you could make in great quantities if you needed to.

Dodo Egg

Golden Puffungi

If you’re at the point in the game where you can start messing around with Dodos and taking their eggs, namely The Desert of Beginnings, you can pair them with some Puffungi to create a very useful food for boss fights.

Although it’s a bit confusing how you could get a block of moldy cheese from an egg and some fungi, it’s better not to question it, and savor its delectable benefits; dealing more damage to bosses, taking less damage from them, and making health regenerating consumables even more effective.

White Coralotl

Terra Trilobite

At some point or another, for the sake of gear upgrades or something else, everyone has to leave the safety and comfort of their base to mine more resources. you may invest in gear, tools, and skills to speed up that process, but what if it still feels too slow?

That’s where White Fossil Sushi comes in, offering a substantial boost to mining damage and speed, which on average will help you get more resources than you normally would on every mining trip, and a big max health increase to make sure you don’t lose those resources.

Golden Pewpaya

Golden Pinegrapple

If you find yourself switching between melee and ranged weapons somewhat frequently during combat, just smash together a Pewpaya and a Pinegrapple, and you’ll make a delicious smoothie that gives a hefty boost to damage and attack speed for both weapon types.

It also restores almost a third of your food bar, and gives decent health regeneration for 20 seconds, making it ideal for exploring new areas, or defeating a boss that’s been giving you trouble. If you don’t have seeds, you can find these fruits in the Sunken Sea.

Golden Lunacorn

Golden Sunrice

The chances of your old Terraria habitswithering away quietly are probably slim, so if you find yourself running a magic build supported by helpful minions, like bats, skeletons, or jellyfish, keeping a few of these sandwiches in your pocket will give you a serious power boost.

The large percent increase to minion damage and attack speed should keep you safe from direct combat, but just in case you have to fend for yourself, you’re also getting a substantial boost to magic damage, and a nice magic barrier for extra damage mitigation.

Golden Carrock

Golden Bomb Pepper

The best part about eating spicy foods in video games is you don’t have to feel the heat; well, only if you’re not a big fan of capsaicin in the first place. Anyway, the point of this pepper wrap is to be used in scary situations.

If you need to escape a horde of enemies, or survive a tough fight, this food’s increase to movement speed, armor, knockback chance, and melee attack speed should be enough to keep you in or out of a fight long enough to emerge victorious or come back more prepared.

Mold Shark

Golden Heart Berry

Alright, the name definitely sounds gross, but if you can stomach eating this suspicious pudding, you’ll be rewarded with a remarkable buff to your physical melee damage and max health, which lasts for ten minutes. If that doesn’t help you defeat whatever you’re fighting, it’s probably time for gear upgrades.

Also, while the health regeneration provided by this food isn’t the most potent, it all adds up; gaining six health every second for 20 seconds equates to a total of 120 health regained, so make sure you eat this when you’re low health if you want to be optimal.
