Star Wars Outlaws, like most triple-A games on consoles these days, launches with a variety of visual and performance settings for players to choose from. From film grain to motion blur to aspect ratio, the PS5 and Xbox versions resemble PC more often than not here.

However, Massive’s effort is a smidge more complicated than expected, and it can take a surprising amount of adjustments to really nail an experience that is perfect for you.

Best Settings On PS5 And Xbox

For some godforsaken reason, Star Wars Outlawsdefaults to 21:9 aspect ratio on consoles, essentially cutting off the top and bottom parts of the screen before widening the picture and offering what it deems as a more cinematic image. For a better experience, switch to 16:9.

While it looks great, having parts of the world cut off in favour of visual splendour makes it so much harder to navigate the environment and perform your desired actions. There is nothing worse than being unable to glimpse Kay Vess in cover or being flanked by an enemy that is otherwise impossible to spot.

16:9 allows the picture to fill the screen, while you will also receive a performance bump as the game isn’t trying to render everything on a larger scale anymore.

Difference Between Performance And Quality Mode

Star Wars Outlaws has two modes: Visuals and Performance, although what these actually do will change depending on what sort of television or monitor you happen to be using.

Quality Mode defaults to 30fps and higher resolution, but if you have a display that supports 120 frames per second or a variable refresh rate, you can opt for a mode that pushes to 40fps. Once you have outputted your console and display to acknowledge variable refresh rates, applicable games should automatically support them.

Here are the settings we used to get the best experience out of Star Wars Outlaws:

Performance mode defaults to 60fps, but doesn’t always keep to that target on all platforms. You’ll have fairly consistent results on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but theSeries S will lag behindand put out a lower resolution, considering the differential in power.

Obviously, many of these graphical options are down to personal preference. Some prefer to play with sharper visuals, while others favour higher performance. For Outlaws, it’s got a sweet spot between the two that is just right.
