Wesley Hotchkiss is Captain Leeway’s oldest companion inSteamworld Heist 2.He’s hoping to find himself an honorable death in battle, but Royal Navy goons and Rattler fanatics are no match for this impeccably-dressed pirate. Like Daisy, he’s one of your starting crew members; he begins the game as an SMG-wielding Reaper, but his true specialty lies in a much less precise approach to combat.
Once Wesley unlocks his Grenadier ability at the Personal Upgrade Terminal, you’ll be able to switch him over to his true calling; the explosion-focused Boomer class! Here’s how to make Wesley a one-bot artillery corps.

Getting Started With Wesley
Early in the game, your options with Wesley will be limited.Stick with his initial class of Reaperfor the first few missions, long enough to get him to at least Level 2 so that he can learnRage. That way, he’ll get adamage buffonce he takes sufficient damage during a mission. If you find yourself leveling especially fast,go ahead to Reaper Level 3for the extra Cog Slot.
Reapers suffer a health debuff. If you have trouble keeping Wesley alive during early encounters, give him a Hammeruntil he reaches Level 1 in Brawler. you may useHard ShellandGutsto make up for his lower HP total, and those Skills will stay with him for the rest of the game if you need them later.

Once you unlock the Personal Upgrade Terminal andteach Wesley his unique Grenadier power, it’s time toequip him with a Rocket Launcher!
Wesley Boomer Build
Grenadier allows Wesley to useone grenade per turn as a Free Action. This makes him perfect for the Boomer class; theSlot Machineskill gets him an extra slot for Utility Items, andBoom Boomincreases the blast damage of grenades while negating friendly fire. With plenty of grenades and a good Launcher, Wesley canclear entire rooms on his own.
Grenades get larger blast radii the higher their tier. Equip Wesley with the best grenades you can find for the biggest booms!
With Slot Machine, Wesley will have room for two Utility Items, and you canunlock a thirdat the Submarine Upgrade Terminal by purchasing Utility Belts for the crew. Have at least one slot filled with the highest-tier standard grenade available, and the other slot with a specialty bomb likeStun Grenades. If you don’t have access to one of those, another set of regular grenades, even of a slightly lower tier, makes a fine backup.
Later in the game, Wesley will get his second ability,Veteran Wardog. This gives him a stacking damage bonus for the rest of the turneach time he scraps an enemy. You’ll need to find a way to get as many attacks in a turn as possible to make the best use of this. Theeasiest way is to equip the Quick Sidearm, a rare Utility Item that can be used as a Free Action. In ideal circumstances, you’ll be able to usea grenade, a sidearm shot, and the Boomer’s Hidden Explosives abilityas Free Actions all before capping off the turn with a rocket… assuming there’s anyone left to shoot!
This setup makes Wesley great for unlocking theBrute ForceandHarvest GoonAchievements/Trophies.
The harder but more effective path to get a free sidearm shot is toget Wesley up to Brawler 4.This takes more time, of course, but it lets you use any Sidearm as a Free Action instead of relying on a rare item, potentially allowing you to use better pistols in that utility slot. The Level 4 ability,Shifty, lets Wesley move slightly each time he scraps an enemy, helping him set up shots to continue his explosive rampage. If you’ve got the time to grind out missions, this is the way to go.
