Minecraft’s Bed Wars game mode is one of the most fun mini-game modes to play. Whether you are playing on a public server or a private one for just you and your friends, Bed Wars can take a little time to master — or even learn. And, with so many servers to choose from, there is an equally diverse number of rules to learn.
Nevertheless, there are a few tips and tricks you’re able to use, regardless of server, to improve your Bed Wars performance. So, without further ado, here are some beginner’s tips for winning your first few games of Bed Wars.

Run To The Generator
Thevery first thingyou should do when you start a game of Bed Wars isrun to the generator. This is where you pick up your purchasing resources.
The best way to get to the generator quickly, is towalk directly backwardinto it, the second you join the map. This way, you minimize the amount of time it takes for you to start earning iron and gold.

On some servers, you can also’split' the generatorbetween teammates. To do this, have each of your teammatesstand at the edgesof the generator for a few seconds toincrease the amount of resources produced. Then, have one person collect them. You’ll get more resources this way.
Divide And Conquer
Themost importantthing to do when playing a game of Bed Wars, regardless of what server you use, is todivide your in-game tasksamong your team members.
If you are playing in a group, the best way to ensure synchronicity and efficiency is todelegate earlywhat tasks belong to which player.

As a general rule of thumb, the best division of tasks for afour-player groupis to haveoneperson onbed defense, oneperson on resource collectionduty, andtwopeople’pushing' the enemy teams(trying to take out their players and beds).
If you find thatone person is strugglingto cover the bed on time, struggles with PvP, or struggles in any role at all, don’t be afraid totry switching upthe role assignments. Communication and experimentation are keys to success.

If you only havethree players, you can assignone task per player. For two players, you should haveone person pushenemy beds, while theother collects resources and holds down the fort.
If you’re playing solo, you will have to do all of these roles by yourself. In this case, it’s best to use astructured ‘schedule’for your tasks.Start with covering your bed, then gather resources and buy tools, and finally, take the enemies out.

Cover Your Bed As Soon As Possible
Not all Bed Wars servers will give you more than one type of block to cover your bed with, but as a general standard, they willat least provide you with wool.
As soon as you have the money to do so — typically in the first few minutes of the game —cover your bed with woolat the very least.

If you cover your bed — especially with more than one layer of a block — early on, it willmake it more difficultfor opposing teams todecide what toolsthey’ll need to break your bed defense. Keep the mystery (and your team) alive!
If you are playing solo, don’t be afraid to leave your bed covered in wool and push your opponents. Sometimes, you will have the best opportunity to attack another team’s bed if you arenot spending time defending yours. This is why covering your bed with at least wool is so efficient.

Use The ‘Butterfly’ Bed Defense
Once you have enough time and resources to spend on your bed defense, the best defense to use is the’Butterfly’ defense.
This only works on servers where you have access toGlass, End Stone, and Wool. However, you can modify the defense to fit whatever materials your server provides.

In this bed defense, you will cover your bed with three different materials:End Stone, Glass, and Wool.
The first layer of your defense should be to cover the bed with asingle-block layer of End Stone— two blocks across the top of the bed, four blocks on either side of the bed, and one block at the front and back of the bed. You will needtwelve blocksof End Stone total.

Trycrouch-clickingto place the End Stone blocks on the top of the bed more easily.
After the layer of End Stone, cover your End Stone with almost afull layer of Glass. You will need this to stop your bed from exploding with TNT, which we will explain later. Covereverything but the outer twoEnd Stone blocks of the ‘wings’. You will need14 blocks of Glass.

Finally, cover the whole defense witha layer ofWool. You will need32 blocks of Wool.
Using amulti-blockdefense will force your opponents toswitch between toolswhen breaking the defense, and if they aren’t quick on the draw, will give you time toslay them while they are changing tools.
Use Glass And Water In Your Defense
In most servers where TNT is usable, Glass willprevent the TNT from exploding. Having even a single layer of glass over your defense will mean that if your opponent drops TNT on the defense, yourbed won’t blow up, and you’ll have less damage to repair in the long run.
Similarly, covering your defense with Water (by placing a single bucket of water on top of thehighest pointof your defense) willstop fireballsfrom destroying your bed defense.
Water alsoslows opponentsdown as they try to destroy your bed defense.
Buy Tools Early
As soon as you are able to spare resources, buy tools. The sooner you may get tools, the easier it will be for you to start taking down enemy beds as well as clean up accidental block placement on your base.
Onmanyservers, tools are permanentonce you have purchased them, and onsomeservers, they areautomatically given to you. Regardless, there is usually a way toupgrade your toolsas the game progresses.
For a beginner, you just need the base set of tools, but as you getmore comfortablewith resource management, you can begin toupgrade your toolsfor quicker power of destruction.
Use Projectiles If You Struggle With PvP
Player-versus-player combat isn’t for everyone, and if you struggle to get a kill with a sword, there are usually other options.
If you’re on a server, like Hypixel, that haspurchasable projectiles, you should use them. Awell-aimed Fireballcan make all the difference.
Aim your Fireballs at bridgesto knock players down, or atbed defensesyour friends are about to reach. You may be able toclear the first layer of blocksaround a bed and make the destruction simpler for your allies.
Similarly,Bows and Knock Back Stickscan also help youcorner your enemiesinto certain spaces. you’re able to even use your bow tofarm kills(you may make a few enemies this way, though).
Use TNT To Blow Up Beds
If you find it difficult to infiltrate a base the old-fashioned way, trybridging abovethe base anddropping TNTon the bed defense. The benefits are two-fold.
By dropping TNT, you do damage to the enemy team, as well asdestroy all or part of their bed defense.
To drop the TNT, place it on theside of a blockyou are standing on while hovering somewhere above the opponent’s defense.
Communicate
This is the most important tip of all. On many servers, you will be playing withrandom teammates. This can be a frustrating and difficult experience, especially if you are not on the same page about what to do or where to go.
The best way to alleviate in-game panic is to make sure youcommunicate clearlywith your teammates.
You canuse in-game chatorexternal voice channelsto coordinate your game strategyahead of time, either in the lobby or before entering a match.
Don’t be a heroand run off on your own! If you don’t let your allies know what you’re up to, yourisk leaving gapsin your defensive or offensive strategy, leaving room for attack.
Buy And Use Traps
Another great way to boost your chances of survival in your early games is tobuy traps. Many servers will have shop functions that allow you to purchase various upgrades and items for your game.
If you are able to, try tobuy traps that protect your base. Sometimes, there are traps that will trigger you if a person hasentered a certain radiusaround your base, alert youif they have turnedinvisible, orblind themupon entering your base.
Traps protect your base while you are away. This is especially helpful if you areplaying solo.
Don’t Overdo Your Armor Or Weapons
It can be tempting to spend a boatload of resources on good armor and swords immediately, but this mayhinder you in the long run.
While a good set of diamond armor or a diamond sword may sound enticing, it’s sometimes not the best choice for your gameplay. Instead, buy a medium-tier armor or swordlike iron to get you by as youperfect your bed defense and stockpile resources.
When the time is right, you can buy diamond armor. We don’t recommend doing this until you are down toone or two teams leftand they are around the same preparedness level as you.
Utilize Hotbar Shortcuts And The Shop
Finally, some servers will have a shop feature that allows you tocustomizethe way resources arestored in your hotbaror the way theyappear in the shop menu.
Servers like Hypixel will let youspeak to a shopkeeperbefore the match begins. Here, you can select the option to organize your storefront by block.
Organize your shop by putting theearliest necessary items on the far leftand thelate-game items on the far right. This way, there is a clear linear progression in your shop byboth price and necessity, and you will have an easier time purchasing items and upgrades.
Some servers will even let youdecide what hotbar slotswill hold certain item categories. For instance, you’re able to select thatslot one should always have your swordwhile two should always be whatever block is in your inventory.
Organize your hotbar by combat and defense. We recommend having your sword in slot one, ablock like wool in slot two, and yourtools and projectilesin thefinalslots.
