Go to the Furst Cave, thecave just north of where you get your boat at the beginning of the gamefor a quick level-up and theWarrior’s Braid, which allows you toattack while dodging and perform a Dashing Strike.

Mind you, you’ll find duplicates of the Warrior’s Brand further on. Butgetting your first instance of the Warrior’s Braid very earlynot only gives you a great new combat technique; it will also help you get a feel for the controls, sinceyou’ll begin factoring in combosvia the item.

Brute-Force Brigand

If you see an object you don’t recognize, try attacking itand see what happens. Either it’s just part of the scenery, in which caseyour attack won’t connect, andyou’ve simply wasted a couple of seconds, orit’s secretly a bit of treasureyou might not have noticed otherwise.

This applies tomany, though not all, barrels; and the barrels are often identical, so it can be easy to forget to thwack them.A few coins are commonplace in barrels and boxes, and we’ve even found the occasional EXP shard.

If you hit thesave parrots at the Fort Beakonsenough times, they’llfly away, and you’ll not be able to saveat their locations for a bit. You can always sail off to another one, but, well, we learned this the hard way.

Set Sail Soon

Explore early- you will get an equipment piece or ship partalmost everywhere that looks like a challenge. You can check your map to see how many treasures are on each islandor island chain, too.

The map informationdoesn’t cover dungeons, which have their own treasure counter. If you see a dungeon, give it a try. You’ll know quickly if it’s too much for you right now, butexploring the relatively close islands at the start of the main questis a great source of EXP and more.

Upgrade equipment at the blacksmith earlyso thatduplicates found in the world, which are free sources of further upgrade, can boost your arms and armor to levels which would bevery expensive otherwise.

Talking to Kitty Cat enough times prompts him to tell you this,so try speaking with important NPCs multiple timesin succession, as they’ll not only have useful information on subsequent chats, butsometimes they’ll even advance a side questin this manner.

The Magic Bone, an upgrade shop in Cat Quest 3

Nyan Genesis

Visit the Magic Bone, the spell upgrade shop, which is a bit west of the tavern and blacksmith on the main island. Chatting with the shopkeep for the first time nets you the very usefulLightnyan spell, which shocks foes and works great for crowd control.

Here’s when our aforementioned tip on repeatedly chatting comes in handy.Talk to her two more times to get the Furry Shield spellthat pulls up a barrier to deflect damage for a limited time.

We’re pretty sure we even needed this spell at one point to solve a puzzle in a dungeon, so don’t miss it!
