Summary

Dungeons & Dragonshas announced a free-to-play virtual tabletop app called Project Sigil that gives custom campaigns a bit more flair, with visible spellcasting, 3D maps, and miniatures. It’ll make your sessions at home a lot closer to a cRPG experience, but it doesn’t end there.

As reported byScreen Rant, Project Sigil includes fan-favouriteBaldur’s Gate 3characters like Astarion and Karlach who you can incorporate into your campaign with accompanying miniatures.

They don’t look identical to the video game versions we’re so fond of (Astarion looks a little bit more Hollywood), but it does mean that you can weaveyour favourite flingsinto your own story.

Project Sigil Isn’t Stopping With Baldur’s Gate 3

At Gen Con 2024,Wizards of the Coastpromised that more of our “favourite IPs” will be brought to Project Sigil in the same vein as Baldur’s Gate 3, but we don’t know anything more than that. Whether that means aMagic: The Gathering-style Universes Beyond collaboration orChris Pine from the D&D movie, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Regardless, this is an exciting step for virtual Dungeons & Dragons campaigns that will no doubt be a great tool for bringing newcomers into the world of tabletop. The basic foundation is completely free, but there will also be a digital starter pack to help you get going, so it seems approachable enough.

Project Sigil is hosting a closed beta later this year in the Fall whichif you’re interested in checking out the new toolset.
