Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3’slong-awaited Patch 7is going to be with us very soon, asLarianreveals that it’s dropping onPCnext week. The console and Mac release has been delayed, however, as mod support isn’t quite ready on these platforms.

Patch 7 will release the modding tools to the public, and make it easier to install mods on PC. Once the patch is live on all platforms, it will finally let console players use mods for the first time, which will give us access to a selection of fan creations.

“Patch 7 is coming out next week,“announcesLarian boss Swen Vincke, speaking at PAX West. “We’re going to be putting a lot of attention on the modding community that’s been helping us [with] the mods that we can officially support.”

Vincke continues, explaining the reason for the delay on other platforms. “Our goal is to do cross-platform modding support, which is not the easiest thing in the world because we have to make it work on console and on PC,” he says. “We’ll start with the PC version. The console version will come a bit later because it has to go through a bunch of submission processes. This also gives us time to see whatever goes wrong and fix it so that we get it in time for console.”

What Kind Of Mods Will Baldur’s Gate 3 Support?

Baldur’s Gate 3already has a thriving modding community, so anyone playing on PC can install creations viaNexus Modsjust as they have been doing since launch - and even before that during early access.

However, console players will be restricted to a curated selection of mods, available through mod.io.Larian has previously statedthat it wants to “support as much creative freedom as possible”, but admits that there will be some guidelines in place since this is an officially licencedDungeons & Dragonsproduct. We’ll have to wait and see what these restrictions look like in practice, but right now, we know that “some NSFW mods” and “certain script-heavy modifications” will be affected.

Aside from this, Patch 7 is also adding new evil endings for all of the characters. We’ve already seen some previews, including one whichreveals the fate of the Dark Urge’s companions, should they give in to their urge.
