Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3just turned a year old, and the cast has marked the occasion with tributes online. One of these tributes actually gives us a new look at behind-the-scenes, with actor Devora Wilde sharing her audition tape forLae’zel.
The video is less than a minute long, but it gives us a look at what would become an absolutely iconic performance. Here, Wilde already embodies everyone’s favourite githyanki, as she casually threatens and berates us in the way we all came to know and love throughout our time with Baldur’s Gate 3.

Devora Wilde Shares Her First Ever Performance As Lae’zel
These lines don’t appear to come from anywhere in the actual game, but given how early in development it would have been at the time, that isn’t surprising. Much of the dialogue was rewritten during early access, let alone before the main cast had been found. Still, the lines are undeniably Lae’zel, as her personality shines through with every word.
The best line has to be the last one, in which Wilde was required to actually spit out her drink and call it piss. I can only imagine this was, at one point, intended to be her dialogue at the party you have after either saving or killing the tieflings.
In the final game, this is usually the part where Lae’zel hits on you. Or, she shoots you down and insults you. Either way, it’s a great time.
Baldur’s Gate 3 might be a year old now, but that doesn’t mean it’s going anywhere anytime soon. It’sstill pulling in more than 100,000 players a day on Steam alone, andthere’s even a huge patch that’s set to drop next month. With that said, we do know thatLarian is working on two more RPGs, so we’ll have to wait and see what it cooks up next.
