Summary

Balatrois a poker-inspired, deck building game. It takes place entirely on the top of a table, sometimes with a fancy background, so modders don’t exactly have that much to work with. However, we should probably know by now that there are plenty of people out there so committed to retro gaming that they’d getDoomrunning on just about anything.

Yes, Balatro has now been added to the ever-growing list of video games that can run Doom, alongside the likes ofPersona 5 Royal,The Outer Wilds, andeven Doom itself. A Reddit user called UwUDev is the mastermind behind the mod this time, who uploaded their creation to the Balatro subreddit earlier this week. You can check out Doom running in Balatro below.

As you may see, UwUDev manages to lay out 15 cards in a square and displays Doom on this makeshift surface, with each card displaying a bit of Doom at a time. What makes this even more cursed is that UwUDev then shows that they can even swap around the cards for an extremely cursed Doom session if you want one.

Balatro Is Yet Another Game That Can Run Doom

Unfortunately, it also appears that this version of Doom is pretty unstable. UwUDev also explains that the build has huge lag spikes and is “really unplayable” at the moment, but they are planning to try and optimize i for a smoother experience. They also had no idea that this little project would have attracted so much attention, so they’re now going to do something “even more impressive and stupid.” I can’t tell if that’s a promise of a threat.

Balatro creator LocalThunk evenacknowledged UwUDev’s efforts earlier this week, sharing the video on their personal Twitter account with an exploding head emoji. We’ll go ahead and assume that’s a ringing endorsement.
