Summary

HyperMegaTech provided retro gamers with an easy and affordable way to play collections of classicCapcomand Taito games on the go last year via the launch of HyperMegaTech’s Super Pocket. Now it has revealed its Super Pocket collection will double in size later this year.Atariand Technos are getting in on the fun, each of the veteran studios getting a Super Pocket of its own and both of them launching in October 2024.

Reported by VGC, the Atari and Technos Super Pocket consoles will be loaded with games each of those studios is best known for. The Atari edition will come pre-loaded with 50 games, Asteroids and Crystal Castles among them alongside various titles originally released on Atari’s consoles. The Technos Super Pocket will have considerably fewer, but in its defense far more graphically demanding, games, headlined by the entire Double Dragon arcade collection.

The new Super Pockets will have their own unique color schemes so you’re able to immediately distinguish them from each other and the Capcom and Taito handhelds already available. The Technos console is blue and grey, while the Atari edition is red and black. There is also a slightly more expensive Atari Super Pocket available for pre-order, the shell of which has been given a woodgrain finish to make it appear as if it’s the Atari 2600’s much younger sibling.

The new Super Pockets also have a cartridge slot in the back like the previous two models so that, if the pre-loaded games aren’t enough, you can buy Evercade cartridges and play a variety of other titles on the consoles. There are already more than 50 Evercade cartridges available through HyperMegaTech, and if you happen to have any original Evercade cartridges lying around, the Super Pocket console is compatible with almost all of those too.

The Atari and Technos editions of the Super Pocket will cost $59 each, be released this October, and pre-orders will go live from July 31. If you like the look of the special edition wood-finish Atari version, which costs $74, pre-ordersare already open exclusively at Funstock. Only 2,600 of the wood-finish console have been made, and they will likely sell out before the console is actually released later this year.
