TheAstro Botreviews are in just in time for its launch tomorrow, and they areglowing. Critics across the board praise its “vibrant levels” and “clever nods to PlayStation classics”, as it holds the highest possible badge on OpenCritic of Mighty, along with an average score of 93 as all critics so far recommend it.

What The Critics Are Saying About Astro Bot

Inour five star review at TheGamer, Editor-in-Chief Stacey Henley argues that it might even surpassSuper Mario Odysseyas a “contender for the all-time crown in a genre that has felt a little neglected in recent years”. While the allure for many might be the myriad cameos, Stacey writes that it’s “much more than a history lesson”.

Game Rantlikewise gave Astro Bot a full five star score, describing it as “pure joy in video game form”, while also arguing that it’s the “best 3D platformer since Super Mario Odyssey”, something thatVGCalso echoed in its five star review. Guys, I’m starting to think this might be the best platformer since Odyssey.

TechRaptorgave the game a 9.5 out of ten, writing that it is a “must-play title for anyone yearning for a classic ’90s platformer and collect-a-thon”, and several other reviews — such asOne More Game— are already holding it up as a possible GOTY contender.

It currently has an impressive score of 94 on Metacritic too, earning it the Universal Acclaim “must-play” badge.

IGNscored the game nine out of ten, praising its “collection of endlessly inventive levels”, saying that it “never once [becomes] even remotely dull or repetitive.“Eurogamergave it full points with five stars, praising it as a “sustained tech demo” that “never runs out of new wonders to show you”. AndVG247likewise went with five stars, simply saying that the game is “perfect”.

Scores across the board are incredibly high and there has yet to be a negative review submitted. Astro Bot is a critical darlling, to say the least, but what’s most impressive is that it’s only one point shy of the highest-rated PlayStation exclusives right now, standing alongsideGod of War Ragnarok,Uncharted 4, andThe Last of Us Part 2.
