Summary

Xboxhas had a very mixed couple of weeks. Two weeks ago it revealedGame Pass would soon be available through select models of Amazon Fire Stick. You don’t even need to own an Xbox, all you need is aGame Passsub, a Fire Stick, and a controller. It then made people forget about that handy step forward by revealingit will be increasing the price of Game Passand muddied the waters regarding how exactly the service’s tiers work in the process.

Hopping back over to the good news side of things connected to Game Pass, the Fire Sticks you need to play Xbox games without an Xbox are currently on sale. Not even by a little bit either. The 4K Fire Stick, which is the more basic of the two models needed to stream Game Pass, is 50 percent off. That brings the price of it down from $50 to $25. you may use the $25 you saved on a month of Game Pass Ultimate and still have $5 to spare.

The other Amazon Fire Stick compatible with Game Pass is the 4K Max, and it’s also $25 off for a limited time. Still $10 more than the 4K model but down to $34.99 rather than the usual $59.99. That extra $10 gets you Wi-Fi 6 compatibility. If you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, that probably means you don’t need to worry and won’t need or benefit from the subtle differences between the $25 and $35 Fire Sticks. I know damn well some of you won’t heed that advice, though. You’re just going to buy the 4K Max Stick anyway. It’s already in your cart, isn’t it?

A Series X For $500, Or An Amazon Fire Stick For $25

Amazon Fire Stick

Amazon’s Fire Stick is a streaming device that plugs right into your TV and provides you with quick and easy access to a variety of services, including Netflix, Disney Plus, and of course, Amazon Prime. Plus the Xbox TV App starting in July 2024 which will let you stream games on Game Pass without a console.

Amazon hasn’t clarified how long its 4K and 4K Max Fire Sticks will be on sale. The price cut coinciding with Xbox rolling out Game Pass compatibility with the Sticks is almost certainly not a coincidence, but it might also have been implemented ready for Prime Day which kicks off on July 16. If you do like the idea of streaming Game Pass games on your TV without the need for a console, and you don’t want to pay full price for the Fire Stick you need to do that, I’d recommend buying one now rather than banking on the Sticks still being on sale by Prime Day.
