Summary

You might think most games set in Middle-earth have the same sort of vibe, but two of the titles selected by Amazon to be given away for free prove you couldn’t be more wrong. Lego The Lord Of The Rings, andMiddle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor. Two very different ways to further immerse yourself in J.R.R. Tolkien’s world. Lego Lord Of The Rings, similar to Lego Star Wars and Marvel games, lets you play through the original trilogy of movies in Lego form.

Shadow Of Mordor is quite a bit different. The story you experience in the Middle-earth game is neither in the movies nor the books. It does take place in the same universe though, set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. However, Shadow Of Mordor is best known for introducing the Nemesis System. The system has enemies remember you meaning if you hurt them, or they hurt you, they’ll recall prior events if and when you meet them again.

WHERE TO PLAY

Play through the original Lord Of The Rings trilogy in Lego form. From Frodo being given The One Ring in The Shire to casting it into the fires of Mount Doom and everything in between.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is notable for its introduction of the Nemesis System governing enemy AI. As Talion, a Ranger of Gondor, you must team up with the ghostly Celebrimbor on a mission of revenge.

The only catch, as is the case with most games given away via Amazon Prime, is that onlyPCversions of the games are given away for free. If that’s not a problem, both can be claimed right now and will remain available to claim until July 14, 2025. It’s unlike services like Game Pass as once the games are claimed, they’re yours to keep, even if your Prime subscription lapses. The less popular sequel to Shadow Of Mordor,Shadow Of Waris alsofree to claimahead of Rings Of Power, but only the Amazon Luna version.
