Between its sea setting and feline protagonist,Cat Quest 3would really miss a beat if it neglected to include fishing. Thankfully, it’s not only present, but it’s a beautifully unique process. Rather than busting out your rod and engaging in a possibly-tedious mini-game, your goal will be to seek out the locations of four legendary catfish, lure them into nets, and report your progress.
Here, we’ll lay it all out: how to start the side quest, where to find the fish, how to navigate any particularly fiendish puzzles therein, and what you’ll earn as rewards for your all that catfishing.
How To Begin “The Furlorn Fishercat”
To get started,sail to Straits Island, which is north of Pawt Purvanna. Along the shoreline, you’ll see an NPC who is engaged in fishing. He’s next to a house (which you’re able to’t enter).
Before you can chat with him, you’ll need todestroy the two nearby Pi-rat ships.These won’t respawn afterward; they’re a one-time encounter desigend to give you a bit of grief here. Speak with him afterward; he’s - fittingly -Grumpy Fishercat.
You’ve got to prove your worth now byluring the nearby catfish into a net. It’ll veer off-course a bit if you don’tkeep closely behind it and push forward. Do so until itenters the nearby net. Talk to Grumpy Fishercat and you’ll receive a reward.
The item you gain here is theFishercat Hat, which begins at level two, adds 22 HP to your health bar, andincreases damage to enemies in the water by 15 percent.
Where To Find All Four Legendary Catfish
The Grumpy Fishercat believes in you. Sort of. He sets you to your task:you must find and capture all four Legendary Catfish. These will be foundacross the Purribean, which includes the Sunset Islandsto the north.
We’re listing these in the order in which we found them, butthey can be acquired in any order.
Rock Catfish
TheRock Catfishis locatedat the middle part of the west shore of Purvanna, the largest landmass in the Purribean.
The path to the net isn’t the problem here; it’s quite straightforward. At least, it would be, were it not forthe conchs in the stream, which are environmental hazards that damage you on impact.
They don’t disappear afterward, either, andif you’re not careful, you can bounce between them for serious damage. If youarehit, it’s generally best to let go of the controls for a second to avoid making things worse!
Your reward for catching the Rock Catfish isFishercat Attire, which comes at level six, adds 52 HP, andincreases damage by 15 percent to water enemies. As you can see, this added effect will be a recurring theme with this side quest.
Lover Catfish
TheLover Catfishisn’t on the Lovepurr Islands, but it’s quite close to them. You’ll find iton a nameless island east of Offspring Island, which issouth of the Lovepurr Islands. The Lovepurrs are all on the eastern side of the map, if that helps.
Destroy the Pi-rat ships that have trapped the Lover Catfish, and blast your cannons after they’re dealt with. As befits its name,it will then happily follow youaround the shoreline, straight into the trap.
Ghost Catfish
For theGhost Catfish, you’ll need to sail down to thesouthwest corner of the map, onFurggy Island. You’ll have toguide it through the zigzagging streamthrough the strips of sand on thelower-right sideof the main island.
This place is challenging at lower levels, withenemies around level 60. The Furggy Isles are intended to serve as a late-game zone,but with careful navigation, you should manage to outrun the foes.
Pi-rats will spawn as you guide the Ghost Catfish, and as we’ve noted above, they’ll hit for devastatingly high damage if you aren’t in their level range.Keep moving and you’ll be fine, but the treasure that appears afterward won’t open while you’re still in combat.
If you’re having a tough time, leave the area and return;the treasure chest will still be there, and at worst you’ll trigger the arrival ofa single Pi-rat to deal withnearby.
Sunset Catfish
The final Legendary Catfish is the sole representative of theSunset Islands. Check your map, andyou’ll see a large maze of interconnected strips of sand at the northwest corner. Head there.
You’ll have toguide the Sunset Catfish through the maze, and you’ll likely have better luck attempting to do so whilein your ship rather than via swimming. This may look like a daunting task, buteven if it veers off-course into a dead end, just get behind it and fix its path.
Once you’ve caught all four,return to the Grumpy Fishercatto receive The Son’s Rod,a gun (!) that starts at level 12 for 64 damage andshoots exploding baits that water enemies are weak to.Pretty good stuff!
