Summary
After what feels like months of waiting,Call of Dutyis finally onGame Pass. Indeed, the Activision first-person shooterfranchise made its Game Pass debut on July 24with the addition of Modern Warfare 3.No, not the 2011 game, though that one is Backwards Compatible, but the most recent 2023 edition of the long-running franchise.
That said, with the addition of Call of Duty to Game Pass came an influx of cheaters.According to CharlieIntel, the rise in cheaters came directly as a result of the ability for PC players to disguise their platform. That’s because Game Pass on PC requires gamers to use the Xbox app on Windows, which makes them appear as Xbox players in-game and not PC players.
Now, however, after multiple reports from gamers and overall frustration in the community, Activision has finally spoken out about the issue.
Activision Says They’re “Committed” To Combating Cheaters
In a statement posted to Twitterviathe Call of Duty Updates account, Activision explained what had happened with its RICHOCHET Anti-Cheat system and the issue that has now been rectified. The RICHOCHET system is a proprietary system that helps aid in the detection of cheaters across a myriad of Call of Duty titles, including WarZone and Modern Warfare 3.
On PC, it makes use of a kernel-level driver that is deployed globally to help catch cheaters. The kernel-level driver is utilized as a result of more sophisticated cheating software that is able to manipulate a game’s code.
The statement reads as follows:
RICOCHET Anti-Cheat resolved an issue with a detection system over the weekend, which resulted in a spike in cheater reports. For clarity,#TeamRICHOCHETis able to detect the specific platform for all users, despite how they may appear in-game. If you suspect a player in your lobby is cheating, regardless of platform, we recommend you submit a report in-game for further investigation.
We remain committed to combating cheaters, shutting down cheat vendors, and providing our players a fair and fun experience.
In other words, it doesn’t matter exactly how a player appears in-game to other players, as the system is meant to detect cheaters, either way. More so, Activision is relying on users to help bridge the gap when it comes to reporting on bad actors. It’s an important development, particularly as COD is set to make its larger Game Pass debut with Black Ops 6 later this year.
