Summary

For a property as long-lasting and as popular asG.I. Joeis, there are really no standout video games to think of. Sure, there are a few NES titles that spark nostalgia, but as far as a AAA G.I. Joe adventure, that simply doesn’t exist. That’s surprising, given that Hasbro’s other long-running franchise,Transformers, has had multiple AAA entries, andDungeons & Dragons, of course, hasBaldur’s Gate 3.

That said, things in the world of G.I. Joe might be changing for the better really soon. That’s because a new job posting points to a AAA action-adventure game starring none other than Snake Eyes.

Snake Eyes Game, Yes Please!

According to a recent job posting at Hasbro,Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game studio based in North Carolina. It was founded by industry veteran Ames Kirshen, who has had a hand in several iconic video games based on IP, including Spider-Man 2, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends, among others.

That studio is looking for a Sr. World/Level Designer for its first AAA multi-platform venture, which will be a G.I. Joe game. Per the description, the game will be “a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes!”

That’s not the only bit of information to squeeze out, as the qualifications for the position include “passion for both open world and linear level design,” as well as “experience working on open-world and/or sandbox projects.”

The Game Will Draw Inspiration From Metal Gear Solid

As if there was any more reason to be excited, the game will seemingly draw inspiration fromMetal Gear Solid. In an interview,Cinematic Director Sean Ainsworth revealed some of the inspiration they will be drawing from, and he listed Metal Gear Solid as an example, noting:

“For the military side, funny enough, the main influence for me is probably the Metal Gear Solid series.”

And if there was any question about whether the game will be cartoonish, then Ainsworth also put that to bed in his interview. “I’m excited to make a game that takes (the) G.I. Joe universe seriously enough to hopefully affect people’s perception of the franchise,” he added.

The game is likely several years from being released, though these recent job postings, coupled with the experience and vision of the team should give fans plenty to be excited about. Finally, a true AAA G.I. Joe game will be on the market, and that’s worth celebrating.
