Conscriptthrows you right into the thick of it as you’re immediately thrown to the front lines of war. As opposing forces close in on the trenches, you’ll have no choice but to learn the basics of survival on the fly. Resources are growing scarce, and help isn’t on the way, so you’ll have to make every bullet count.
While you may be as vulnerable as every other soldier on the battlefield, your wits can set you apart from the rest. Here, we’ve got the best beginner tips to make the most of what you’ve got in the face of a hopeless scenario.

Avoid Combat
Resources are extremely limited, so you mustavoid combat as much as possible. There are plenty ofhiding places around the trenchesthat you can use to evade patrolling guards. However,if an enemy spots you, hopping into a hiding spot won’t save youfrom their pursuit.
If combat is necessary, try shooting at red barrels to create an explosioncapable of killing multiple enemies at once. There are alsoseveral mounted guns in the trenchesthat can defeat enemies with ease. Luring your opponents to red barrels and mounted weapons is key to preserving ammunition.

If you’re out of offensive options, make a break for the nearest door.Enemies can’t follow you through doorsleading into a separate area.
You can alsogo in and out of a room to reset the position of every enemy.

Every gun has a lengthy reload animation, especially if they haven’t been upgraded. If you get caught by an enemy and none of your weapons are loaded, you’ll be forced to run.
You can rely on melee weapons, butclose-distance combat is risky.Using melee weapons willrequire careful management of your staminato avoid becoming exhausted.

If your stamina is fully depleted, you won’t be able to sprint or dodge rolluntil your stamina fully refills again.
Use Sneak Attacks
You can instantly defeat an enemy byattacking them before they see you.You canperform sneak attacks with melee weapons and guns; youjust need to make sure your target isn’t aware of your presence. Be sure to steady your aim, asmissing your attack can expose your positionto the enemy.
It’s easiest towait around the corner with a melee weapon, prepare your aim, and then strike when the enemy walks into your path.

When an enemy is suspicious of someone being nearby,an icon of an eye will start to appear over their head.Once an enemy spots you, they will shout and reveal your locationto all nearby enemies. you’re able to alsoexpose yourself if you sprint or rollnear an enemy.
While the Trench Torch fires off a bright beam, your light won’t give you away.

Burn Corpses
During the second chapter, you’ll obtain theLighterthat can be used alongwith Fuel to set an area ablaze. The lighter is primarilyused to burn corpsesleft in the trenches. However, the Lighter can’t be used until youobtain the Lighter Fluid from the Fuel Storage room.
After obtaining the Lighter Fluid, rats will have a chance of spawning at any corpseyou don’t burn. To avoid wasting Fuel, you shouldonly burn corpses in narrow areaswhere dodging the rats will be impossible.

It’s not worth burning a body in a room you have no reason to return to.
Try luring enemies on top of a corpsebefore killing them. If you manage to stack multiple corpses near each other, you’ll be able to burn multiple corpseswith a single use of Fuel.

Use Grenades For Rats
Throughout the trenches you canfind small holes where the rats reside. If you throw a grenade into the hole, rats will no longer spawn in that area, even if there are fresh corpses.
Rats are weak andcan be defeated easily with melee weapons, but they can spawn in huge swarms.Getting bit by a rat has a chance of inflicting poison, which will decrease your maximum Health until it’s cured.Using the shotgun or a grenade is the safestway of dealing with any rat crowd.
Revisit Old Areas
If you’re running low on supplies, try revisiting areas you’ve already looted. After meeting specific objectives, some areas will be restockedwith various items.
For example, more items will spawn inthe Pigeon Coop after obtaining the Road Key.You can even find a bag that increases your maximum inventory spaceby one.
At certain points in the story, some areas will be rid of enemies, allowing you to loot in peace. This is also a great way toround up any cigarettes lying aroundfor the Merchant.
Get The Body Armor
In the underground areawhere you obtain the Trench Torch, you can obtain the Body Armor. Near the ladder you came from, you’ll findanother path leading south.Use the Trench Torch toilluminate the wayandfollow the path.
Along the path, you’ll finda room containing a large chest.Inside is the Body Armor, an item thatnullifies melee attacks and prevents you from flinching.
This item is perfect for encounters with melee enemies, especially if you’re trying to run past a crowd.
The Body Armor’s durability willdecrease after every attack you endure. However, you’re able to restore the Body Armor’s durability witha Repair Kit.
Give The Medic Supplies
Near the end of the second chapter, you’ll encounterthe Medic in the Combat Shelter. If you provide the Medic with the supplies he’s looking for, you’llreceive a Stimulant.
A Stimulant is a rare item that costs a fortune from the Merchant, that willpermanently increase your maximum Stamina.
In later chapters, you’ll encounter the Medic several more times.Continue providing the Medic with whatever they need, and you’ll get your hands on some rare loot.
